This thread is for us that have scanner tools. I know I frogot mine the other night, sorry Chris White, but Dustin whipped his out and saved the day. LOL, that sounded kinda ghey. Anyways back on topic, scanners are handy to check/clear CEL/MIL. When you start modding CEL happen from time to time and you need to adress them so your car is operating at its best. If the performance code is severve enough it will drop the computer into open loop mode and it will run rich, which means a loss in power, shitty gas mileage, and possible damage to the O2 sensors and cat.

For us that converted a NA to FI we have to make sure the computer is happy and we do that by watching the fuel trims. There are a lot of scanners that can do that but it is a lot more useful when you can datalog that info so you can go back and make your adjustments to the fuel map. I'm sure I bored most of you already so here are a few links to my setup.

http://www.scantool.net/elmscan-5-usb.html it uses the Elm327 chip, don't buy the super cheap ones from china, i have heard too many horror stories about most of them not working, or barely working. scantool it a reptable company thats right here in the good ole u s of a. Works on all OBD cars from '96 on.

http://www.scantool.net/software/scanxl.html I want to upgrade the software for my scanner so i can datalog. i really like the palmer performance software but when i realized they make the scanXL software for scantools and its 20 bucks cheaper I was all over it like a fat kid on a ho-ho. Great software, lots of cool features. it has a lot avaible and i'm still figuring it out. I still haven't tried the dyno or 1/4 mile functions yet.

Honorable mention DashHawk by MSD http://www.dashhawk.com/ a but pricey but it does just about everything my setup does minus needing a laptop, its pretty badass.

My plans are to get a pocket PC and put the software on that, then configure a sweet gauge display of all the stuff i need. i'll make a mounting bracket and then have a more customizable version of the dashhawk plus wifi if i'm in range. Shit I can keep the RSX Helm manual that I have on digits on it and all the other cool shit i might need for my car on there easy to access like.

Lets hear about your scannering tools.
